Rear Admiral Morisetti,
Commander of the United Kingdom Maritime Force
COM Maritime Component

Rear Admiral Neil Morisetti joined the Royal Navy in 1976. After initial training and university, he held various appointments at sea before, in 1986, assuming command of HMS Cygnet, a member of the Northern Ireland Squadron. Subsequently a Principal Warfare Officer in HMS Cumberland, in 1991 he joined the Naval Secretary’s Department as an Officers’ Appointer.

Admiral Morisetti has commanded HMS Cardiff twice, firstly in 1993-1994, and again for 18 months from Dec 99, as the Captain Fifth Destroyer Squadron. On leaving HMS Cardiff for the first time, he attended the Joint Service Defence College before joining the Directorate of Navy Plans and Programme in Aug 95. Whilst in this appointment he was involved in presenting the maritime case as part of the Strategic Defence Review. The next two years were spent as Chief Staff Officer (Plans and Programmes) to the Flag Officer Surface Flotilla, implementing the outcome of the SDR.

After his second time in HMS Cardiff he completed a short tour as Deputy Director of the Directorate of Resources and Plans, Centre, with responsibility for the MOD Central plans and programming aspects of the Defence Logistic Organisation. Promoted to Commodore in March 2002 he took over as Director TOPMAST, responsible for developing the manpower system for the Future Navy. In April 2004 he assumed Command of HMS Invincible, following attendance at the Higher Command Staff Course. During his fifteen months the ship deployed in the Maritime Strike Role and acted as the Flagship for the Trafalgar 200 Fleet Review, before paying-off in August 2005. He took over as COMUKMARFOR in November 2005.

A Freeman of the City of London, Admiral Morisetti lives in Dorset with his wife Jennifer and two children (Charlotte and Hugo). When they allow him, his interests include watching rugby (too old and too broken nowadays to play), literature, good food and wine, and hindering his wife in the restoration of their 16th century farmhouse and the running of their farm.
